In this episode…
Have you felt like your body suddenly changed after 40 – and no one sent the memo? If you’ve been eating well, moving your body, and still thinking, “Why is this so hard now?” … I see you. And you’re not imagining it.
As we move through midlife, our hormones, metabolism, and stress response shift in a big way. The strategies that worked in our 20s and 30s simply don’t work the same anymore, and that can feel frustrating and discouraging. You deserve better than the old “just eat less and move more” advice. It’s outdated and often uninformed.
In this episode of Nourish with Michelle Fox, I invited hormone expert Kimberly Cunningham to help us get real about what’s actually happening inside our bodies during this phase of life, and how to approach weight loss and wellness with more compassion, science, and support.
My Personal Journey (The Honest Version No One Talks About)
I want to be transparent about my own experience because so many women only see the “after” and not the truth of the process.
I did not start with Tirzepatide.
Before we ever talked about medication, Kimberly ran labs to understand what was going on in my body. She started me on testosterone first to strengthen my foundation, and then we added Tirzepatide months later when my body was prepared for it.
That intentional approach changed everything for me. It wasn’t about shortcuts. It was about honoring my biology.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode
Here’s what we dig into together:
- Why weight loss looks and feels different after 40
- The role your hormones play in metabolism, muscle, energy, and cravings
- What I wish I knew before starting Tirzepatide
- Why muscle + protein + strength training are non-negotiables for midlife wellness
- Why community and connection are essential – not optional
Why This Matters for You
If you’ve felt shame or self-blame around your body or weight, I want you to release that today! You are not failing. Your body is simply asking for a different kind of support.
There is no shame in seeking help – whether that’s hormone therapy, medication, or working with a practitioner who sees the full you. You deserve resources that meet you in the season you’re in now and not the season you used to be in.
3 Myths I Wish We’d Stop Telling Women
Let’s call out the nonsense:
Myth #1: “You just need more willpower.”
No. It’s biology, not character.
Myth #2: “Cardio is the answer.”
In midlife, strength training is actually the key to metabolism.
Myth #3: “Needing help means you’re cheating.”
Support is a strength move. Shame is outdated. We are so done with that!
If You’re Considering Tirzepatide…
Here are a few questions to ask your provider first (learned from my journey):
- Will you run labs before prescribing?
- How will we monitor hormones and muscle mass during treatment?
- What lifestyle support will we pair with medication?
You deserve a practitioner who sees you as a whole person and not just a number on a scale.
If this resonates, please share this episode with another woman who deserves to feel supported in this time in her life.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. I’m right here with you and so is our community!
