For years, I believed I just had to tough it out through pre-menopause and menopause symptoms. In my book Is It Hot in Here Or Is It Just Me? I guide women through 7 Steps to Dramatically Reduce Your Hot Flashes Using the Power of Nutrition—encouraging us all to avoid sugar, caffeine, stress, and more. That advice still holds true, but I’ve since discovered it’s only part of the solution.
The real breakthrough? Science-backed treatments like hormone replacement therapy and GLP-1 medications that have completely transformed my life.
My Lowest Point
June 2024 is a month I’ll never forget. My cousin came to Denver for a visit, and while he kindly questioned that huge stack of gluten-free pancakes in front of me, I could see it in his eyes — it was hard for him to see me 40 pounds heavier than my former athletic build.
Not long after, I saw swimsuit photos from my sister’s 50th birthday pool party in Vegas. I didn’t recognize myself. And as if the physical changes weren’t enough, intimacy with Steve (Hot Husband) had become painful — like broken glass in my pelvic area.
Imagine having Hot Husband as your partner… and saying no to sex because it hurt too much?? That was my reality and I felt super frustrated that I couldn’t figure out a solution. It also caused some distance between us as I didn’t always know how to communicate my discomfort and he was often afraid of hurting me.
Finding Real Solutions
Everything changed when I started working with the Cunningham Clinic. A carefully balanced combination of testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone erased my hot flashes, improved my sleep, and — to my delight — reignited my libido. Like reignited as in I started chasing Hot Husband around the house. LOL! Our sex life is now better than when we originally fell in love.
A few months after we balanced out my hormones, I began tirzepatide (a GLP-1 medication) to support weight loss. The result? A year later I’m 40 pounds lighter, my confidence is sky-high, and I’m wearing clothes that have been sitting in the back of my closet for years. Steve even teases me now: “Are you checking yourself out again?” Yes. Yes, I am.
Why I’m Sharing This
I want every woman reading this to know: you do not have to suffer. Ask more questions. Explore your options. Consider HRT. Consider GLP-1s if necessary. The right treatment can give you your life — and your joy — back!
Coming This September: The Conversations We All Need
This September, I’m teaming up with my good friend Kimberly Cunningham for a no-holds-barred podcast series. You’re going to love her! We go there — talking about vibrators, body confidence, the science behind HRT, and why women DO NOT NEED TO SUFFER.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, frustrated, or just plain exhausted by your symptoms, these episodes will be your permission slip to reclaim your body and your pleasure! Recording has already begun and I cannot wait to share these juicy conversations with you.
Embrace This Next Chapter With Confidence
If you’re ready to explore hormone replacement therapy or GLP-1s, talk to a trusted provider. If you are in Colorado, please run, don’t walk to Cunningham Clinic and ask for a complimentary consultation.
I’m living proof that menopause can be a season of empowerment, vitality, and even better sex than you’ve ever had before.
