#57: Kindness as a Love Language with Iffie Jennings
Oct 10, 2023In this episode…
My heart is full today as I have the privilege of introducing you to my good friend, Iffie Jennings! Iffie is a mother, wife of an army veteran, in addition to being actively involved in various organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in the world, such as the Black Entrepreneur Board, the Children's Museum Board, and Hunger Free Colorado Board. Today, I am thrilled for you to hear about the brand she has founded, The Kindness Network, a company focused on leading with kindness and spreading positive messages through clothing.
I know this conversation will leave you inspired to spread kindness to not only others, but to yourself! By doing so, we can create a ripple effect of kindness and make the world a better place - one act of kindness at a time.
The Kindness Network: More Than Just a Clothing Line
Inspired by her mother, who embodied kindness, Iffie wanted to create a space where kindness was celebrated, especially in a world filled with negativity on social media and in the news. Her entrepreneurial journey began with an Etsy greeting card line that transitioned to a drop shipping company with the tagline "One Kind Word."
Eventually, she settled on the brand name "Live a Kind Life" and expanded the Kindness Network to be more than just a clothing line. Iffie aspires to create a movement and lifestyle where people embrace kindness and prioritize leading with empathy in their personal and professional lives.
The Importance of Self-Care and Kindness Towards Oneself
As a mom, board member, and entrepreneur, Iffie understands the pressure of having to balance multiple roles. We discussed the importance of self-care and prioritizing kindness towards oneself and our families. We discussed how important it is to take care of our physical and mental health, and to make time for the things that make us happy. Being kind to ourselves, even when we make mistakes, and being present for our families and friends when they need us are both essential to living a healthy life.
We also explored the familiar challenges of time management and wearing multiple hats. We both shared our personal struggles with this and how we learned (and are still learning) to overcome them. Some of the strategies we discussed as useful in our lives include seeking therapy, carving out personal "me time", and setting boundaries to prioritize self-care.
Connect with The Kindness Network
As we all know, our mental health and physical health go hand in hand. That is why The Kindness Network is a great way to connect with a community of women leaders who prioritize empathy and kindness in their personal and professional lives. Make sure you follow them on Instagram at @firstkindnessnet where you will get a daily dose of content to fill your kindness cups and uplift your spirits when they're feeling low.
Additionally, you can visit their website, thekindnessnetwork.net, to access their resources and let them know what you need as a leader to cultivate empathy and kindness. They are always open to new ideas on how to support their community.
