Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the Freedom Smoothie! Why freedom, you ask? Well, thanks for asking!

 

My hubby thought I might be excited about Jennifer Garner’s famous smoothie recipe. As I dig deeper into my studies at the Academy of Culinary Nutrition, my family has been looking for ways to be involved. I took one look at the recipe, and I immediately wanted to “healthify” it. It’s my blog; I can make up words if I want. Ha!

 

One big theme of my culinary nutrition study has been that every meal needs protein, healthy fat, and fiber to promote health – balanced blood sugar, happy mood, and sustained energy.

 

Oh, the freedom part – yes, let’s get back to that. 

 

A shadow from my past was released the same week I discovered this delicious smoothie. The immature side of me wants so badly to spill the tea, but the more mature and growth-minded me is choosing to refrain.

 

All you need to know is that this smoothie is DELICIOUS! I hope you enjoy it!

It is a refreshing snack or hearty breakfast! This smoothie is packed with healthy fat, protein, and fiber to keep you energized.

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops of protein powder (make sure you have at least 20 grams)
  • 1 C alternative milk (almond, coconut, or oat)
  • 1/4 C frozen mixed berries
  • 1 handful of dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, chard, or mix)
  • 1 T maca powder
  • 1 T coconut oil
  • 1 T almond butter
  • 1 t chia seeds
  • 1 t hemp seeds

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in your blender, press go, and dance for at least 30 seconds. Once mixture is blended, pour into glass jar and enjoy!

There are so many delicious protein powders out there. Please avoid any brands that have dairy or other inflammatory ingredients inside. Also, pay attention to what feels good in YOUR body. We are all created uniquely!

A few quick health notes I’ve learned so far:

 

Protein supports our brain function. Mixed berries are super high in Vitamin C.  Dark leafy greens are the glorious fiber we need to keep our digestion flowing. Maca powder helps to regulate our hormones. Coconut oil is a super healthy fat and is anti-microbial. Almonds and thus almond butter are healthy source of protein that helps to prevent insulin resistance. Chia seeds are chock full of omega-3 fatty acids that reduce intestinal inflammation. Hemp seeds support our brain health and nervous system.
