Story time...

As an NYU student, I signed up for an exchange semester at Spelman.

I grew up as one of the only Black girls in my class from kindergarten through 12th grade. So imagine my excitement, heading to an all Black women’s college in Atlanta.

And then I met my roommate.

Laura.

I’ll be honest. We had a crunchy start. I had expectations for that semester, and they didn’t quite match the room I walked into.

But we hashed it out.

And that girl went on to read poetry at my first wedding.

35 years later, she’s one of my dearest friends. Laura, I’m so grateful for your love, your friendship, and for hosting me in London. Here’s to the next 35! 💖

Okay, real talk.

I did NOT expect to get this emotional filling out my ballot.

But the more I researched, the more it moved me.

I just got home from Europe, and seeing the world from the other side of the ocean expanded my lens. The moment I landed back in Colorado, voting was my very first priority.

And I really hope it’s yours too.

Colorado friends, please, please, please vote (if you haven’t already)!

Two resources made this SO much easier for me, and I’ll drop both in the comments:

✨ A nonpartisan ballot decoder a trusted friend sent me. You can see which groups said yes or no on every statewide measure, and why.

✨ The Equal Justice Foundation’s guide to the judges on our ballot, based on how local attorneys rated them.

And if you’re short on time or feeling overwhelmed, just send me a message. I’m happy to share how I voted.

Ballots are due by 7pm on TUESDAY, November 3. It’s TOO LATE to mail, so find a drop box or a vote center!

Your voice matters. Let’s use it.

P.S. To my trusted friend who sent me that decoder, thank you!! You helped me feel like a more confident voter.
